The focus of the training will be Class 8 (corrosive) hazardous materials. Industry Members: Register for Driver Requirements Roadside Inspection Training Course [ https://www.cvsa.org/trainingpage/training/driver-industry-course-maryland/ ] CVSA will hold its Industry Roadside Inspection Course – Driver Requirements in Columbia, Maryland, Nov. 4-8. Registration for FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse Now Open [ https://clearinghouse.fmcsa.dot.gov/ ] The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) opened registration for its Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.The mandatory compliance date is Jan. 6, 2020. U.S. DOT Announces New Initiative to Support Rural Transportation Needs [ https://www.transportation.gov/briefing-room/us-secretary-transportation-elaine-l-chao-announces-major-new-initiative-support-rural ] The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) created the Rural Opportunities to Use Transportation for Economic Success (ROUTES) Initiative to analyze discretionary funding and financing opportunities for rural communities' transportation infrastructure. The new ROUTES Initiative will assist rural stakeholders in understanding how to access DOT grants and financing products, and develop data-driven approaches to better assess the needs of rural transportation projects. Survey Results Show Only 3%of Severe Crashes in the U.S. Involve Commercial Vehicles [ https://www.ccjdigital.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/10/2019/10/VZC_Report_PR_Vehicle_Safety_Wakefield_FINAL3-2019-10-09-18-19.pdf ] A new survey commissioned by Verizon Connect and Wakefield Research identified misconceptions everyday drivers have about the level of danger posed by commercial motor vehicle drivers, including the finding that 83% of those surveyed believe they pose less risk on the road than commercial drivers. misconceptions everyday drivers have about the level of danger posed by commercial

they pose less risk on the road than commercial drivers. In actuality, only 3%
of all severe crashes in the U.S. involve commercial motor vehicles.</p></td>
